Soweto represents the hard-fought struggle against apartheid. We look beyond the bloody legend of the 16 June 1976 uprising and behind the hardened face of resistance politics, to the core of Soweto and its people.
You’ll catch a glimpse of the lives of its estimated 3 million residents. This popular tour includes a visit to attractions such as Mandela and Family Museum, the Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial site the Regina Mundi Church, matchboxes houses, hostels, spaza shops,Vilakazi Street.
We also visit a typical shebeen (local restaurant and bar) for refreshments and a chat with the locals. The tour is concluded with a drive past a taxi rank, a squatter camp (informal settlement), Orlando Towers, University of Johannesburg (Soweto Campus), Maponya Mall, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and Soccer City (home to the opening and closing functions of the Soccer World Cup 2010.
